Nominations for the Barnardos Australia's Mother of the Year for 2010 will open on 1 December 2009 and will close on 31 January 2010.
On Thursday, 7 May 2009 Bernadette Black from Tasmania was named Barnardos Australia's Mother of the Year for 2009. Bernadette's devotion to her family and to supporting young mothers is inspirational to all Australians. The Barnardos Australia’s Mother of the Year Awards is the only national event that recognises the achievements of mothers and their enormous contribution to the Australian community.
Most of us are lucky enough to have had a great mum. Whether she was funny, creative, quirky, hardworking or patient, who would we be today without her? Unfortunately many of the children Barnardos supports every year are robbed of the foundation of life, their childhood. That's why Barnardos holds these awards every year - to celebrate the important role mums play in giving children a good start in life.
